My Teaching Philosophy

My philosophy as an educator is to establish a community amongst the students in my classroom. It is to accept the differences and diversity of a class and be able to use the differences as a strength to develop relationships and a sense of belonging to every student a part of the class. It is my desire to establish a community and environment in which students can nourish academically, emotionally, mentally, and most importantly socially. I will provide a safe environment in which students can feel they belong and are constantly invited to be able to share their thoughts and ideas amongst the class in a sense of community. Through this environment I will assist in and provide situations in which students can meet their full potential.

My 3 pillars that construct my philosophy are:

Positivity: I Believe the key to a successful classroom is maintaining a strong level of positivity. Not only do I need to be positive in leading a classroom but I also need to maintain positivity throughout the students in my classroom. I believe a positive environment will only benefit each students’ progress in learning. Positivity leads to a safer and more efficient classroom setting. By creating a positive environment, it will be easier to develop supportive relationships with my students. I believe positivity can also lead to becoming approachable by my students, which is very important to me in establishing a successful classroom.

Open-Mindedness: I believe it is important to note that every student is not equal and should not be treated as such. I do not mean that other students are worth more than others, but that every student learns differently than one another. This presents the idea of “meeting them where they are” which I feel is vital to a properly ran classroom. To be successful, you have to be open-minded, you have to address each problem differently than the pervious. Every student deserves a right to an education whether they are gifted or not, each student deserves to learn and as an educator, I believe that every student needs to be taught differently because no 2 students learn the same.

Community: Community is extremely important to what I believe in. I want every student that ever walks into a classroom run by myself to feel at home, to feel safe, and to feel a sense of togetherness within the classroom. I want my students to understand that I understand life gets out of hand sometimes. I want them to feel as if I am extremely approachable and extremely understanding. I want to implement a classroom that has high levels of respect as it only benefits relationships within the classroom leading towards our own community within the room.

In my eyes I believe that for a student to reach their full potential as a learner and a person there has to be multiple elements of a classroom environment that I provide to give students possibilities through acting as a guide for the students, giving students access to meet their needs of what helps each individual student learn, whether it is hands on, as a group or individually. As well as, let the students use the ability of their own choice and let their curiosity nourish in a way to help their learning, and through the element of technology, I can assist this idea. To allow students to reach their full potential I can implement backwards design and flipped lessons to better assist students in their respective learning goals. Each student learns differently and I believe it is important to find ways each student benefits from different learning processes

I believe being an educator means leaving an impact. I want to leave a lasting impact in students’ lives the way that educators in my own life played roles in my life and shaped me to who I am today. I believe achieving this means creating good relationships, establishing a community, and implementing many different ways I can effectively educate the next generation.
